Dimplex Fireplace, Stove Remotes Recalled

About 700,000 Dimplex remote control kits for electric fireplaces and stoves are being recalled. The plug-in wall unit can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
Dimplex has received about 5,000 reports of the plug-in wall units overheating including 19 reports of damage beyond the remote control and one report of a house fire in Columbus, Ohio that resulted in considerable property damage.
The recalled remote control kits are used with Dimplex, Electraflame, Symphony, Optiflame, Electralog and Charmglow brand electric fireplaces, stoves and fireplace inserts. They include a black or dark gray hand-held remote control and also a black or dark gray wall unit that plugs into an electrical wall outlet. Recalled model numbers include 47-1001, 47-1010-R and APT-1315. The model number is printed on either the plug-in unit or the hand-held remote control. The fireplace or stove's brand name is printed on both units.
The kits, made in China, were sold by mass merchandise, home improvement, specialty fireplace and furniture retailers from January 1998 through December 2008 for between $200 and $1,500 for the fireplaces and stoves. This recall includes remote control kits subsequently replaced under warranty.
Consumers should immediately stop using the remote control kits, unplug the power cord from the remote control kit's wall unit, remove the wall unit from the electrical outlet and contact Dimplex for a free replacement kit. Consumers can continue to operate the fireplace or stove by plugging the fireplace or stove's electrical cord directly into an electrical outlet.

SHIPPING METHODS
Standard Shipping
Small items ship with UPS or FedEx. We do not require a signature for deliveries, but the decision to leave your package without a signature is at the carrier’s discretion.
Please note we cannot ship to P.O. Boxes or Military APOs.
Large and bulky items can ship via truck freight.
Delivery is different from standard shipping in 2 ways.

  • Delivery is by appointment. The carrier will contact you within one week of delivery to arrange 2-4 hr window.
  • You are responsible for removing the item from the truck. Front Door Service/Basic Service
  • Delivery to: Inside the threshold of your residence. Your product will be delivered to your front entrance, The product will not be carried up stairs inside the home. If you live in an apartment above the first floor of a building, we recommend upgrading to Room of Choice or Room of Choice with Packaging Removal.
  • Assembly Service: None
  • Packaging: The product will be left in the original packaging. Room of Choice Service
  • Delivery to: A two-man team will bring the item inside your residence to the room you choose. This includes carrying the product up two flights of stairs from the building threshold (4-15 steps = 1 flight). If you need the product moved up additional flights, please contact us*.
  • Assembly: None
  • Packaging: The product will be left in the original packaging. Room of Choice with Packaging Removal

  • Packaging: The shipper will remove and dispose of all packaging. *In all cases the shipper will not hook up any electrical or component wires. Having items carried up more than 25 steps and longer assembly periods are available as additional services which would require additional charges.
    Immediately after you place your order you will receive an order confirmation email. It is at this time that we will begin processing your order. Processing involves receiving your order, transmitting the information to the appropriate vendor, and packing the product for shipping. Due to the number of manufacturers we deal with, processing times will vary from item to item. This can range from 24 hours to 6 business days, depending on both the manufacturer and the product type. Shipping Notification. When we receive confirmation that your item has shipped, you will receive a shipping notification email from us containing your tracking number. With this number, you have 24-hour access to monitor the progress of your package as it is in transit to you. Since we ship some products directly from the manufacturer, you may receive separate shipping notification emails for each item that you purchase.
